Salute the Super Pages: Treasuring Teen Team Members

Teen and young adult library pages can help provide an extraordinary customer service experience for visitors.

Mobile and visible, their energy and enthusiasm can be cultivated by treating them as a special part of the library team. Pizza parties, meetings to solicit their service improvement ideas and feedback and training opportunities motivate and reward them and provide positive work experiences.

At Schlow Centre Region Library in State College, PA, pages recently received free exhibit passes to the Pennsylvania Library Association's annual conference, where they had a chance to sample technology, books and media and visit with library school representatives. Overall, the experience gave them a taste of the larger library community. The Library also purchased T-shirts featuring a logo designed by the team.  The shirts, as well as employee name tags, give them visibility to customers and pride in their team accomplishments.
